In November Guadalupe Peraza convened 9 musicians from Mexico, Mali, Taiwan, Finland and the USA for a wonderful concert at the America’s Society in Manhattan. We explored the relationships between European Baroque, Son Jarocho, West African and other traditions. It was quite a joyous evening! We’re thankful that it was documented in hi-def audio/video and we look forward to sharing it soon.
Mexamorphosis presents cross-cultural programs that question the boundaries drawn between “folk music” and “classical music”, street and concert hall, old world and new world, etc. We make room for each artist to speak their tradition freely, to see themselves through their colleagues and to create new and remembered modes of expression.
